Statement from the member:
I feel that it is our duty, as those living in the present, to connect with the future.
Since the moment I got bewitched by computers in the 1980s, I kept cheering for the other honorary members from a distance as I myself was learning how to program on my own. In 1990 I started working as a programmer and I completely lost myself in the process of creating. It is a great honor, and not without a feeling of unease, for me to find my name on the same page now as the other honorary members, the people I looked up to so much back then.
In the 1990s, game creation became a group effort. I was initially very resistant to being made an honorary member as an individual, given that I made games with many friends and companions. In the end, I decided to consider myself a representative of all these people.
When I was working on the PC-8001 mini in 2017 I realized how much data has not been preserved. In the case of media and supports that are prone to deterioration, the data that is left as-is will inevitably disappear. If things remain as they are, game culture will only be preserved orally, and I felt a deep apprehension about the fact that in 100 or 200 years there will be no way of correctly reconstructing this history. As we are living in the present, I feel that it is our duty to create connections with the future.
As I believe that the activities of the Game Preservation Society aimed at preserving the contents that we creators produced over time will be of great importance for the future, I support them.
