Statement from the member:
I would be happy if we could share the gaming culture that we’ve created.

I think I first met Joseph (the founder of the Game PReservation Society) in England. I was being interviewed by a writer who wanted to publish a book about Japanese developers. At the time I got the impression that Joseph was rather friendly, and that he was better versed in matters of Japanese game culture than even Japanese people.
It is impressive for someone to think of these things as culture, since even I did not consider my own games as such. I made so many original games as an amateur, while as a pro… How many did I even make again? The fact that I can’t recall likely speaks for itself. And yet, neither the source code, let alone the environments where everything was taking place, remains.
The source code for Hydlide is lost. Or rather, I don’t have the code from the times back at T&E Soft. Sometimes some fragments get found, but the ones that would allow for the reconstruction of the original binary code are very scarce.
Following these thoughts, between 2017 and 2018 I personally developed a new game for the PC-8001. Although, I should mention that it was because of many people’s efforts that the work was first completed. At the time I felt like I managed to bring back some of the excitement from back then. The Game Preservation Society kindly had me provide a public lecture. Should there be another chance in the future, I would love to engage in more presentations. Deculture!

Biography:
Naitō buys a PC-8001 while in high school. He goes on to contribute to the magazine I/O and also win the ASCII software contest.
He joins T&E Soft in February 1984, completing his debut work, Cosmo Muter in about one month. The following title, Hydlide, is a booming hit that instantly makes him a star programmer. The sequels Hydlide II and Hydlide 3 are no less successful. After directing many titles as head of develpment of T&E Soft, he resigns. Through E.O. Imagination, he takes up the role of instructor at the comprehensive institute for computing HAL in the Nagoya branch.
Since 2004, he is part of DEEP. By working on golf simulators, he discovers golf as a new pasttime. After Chunsoft in 2010, he starts working at M2, where he still covers the role of programmer.
